Very few people wake up planning to become villains.
In realistic crime fiction, corruption begins quietly:
- A favor for a friend
- Looking the other way once
- Taking money to solve a problem
These moments feel manageable at first. Justified. Temporary.
But every compromise makes the next one easier.
That’s why corrupt cops are such powerful characters. They usually start with good intentions. They want to protect their partners. Pay their bills. Keep their families safe. Over time, the job erodes their boundaries.
Eventually, they’re no longer bending rules.
They’re living outside them.
